Lake Tahoe Winter Engagement Photography
Over the past weekend I headed up to Lake Tahoe for some Engagement photography with Jenn and Andrew. I knew Tahoe would make for an amazing backdrop for an engagement session with an awesome couple and I certainly wasn’t disappointed! Jenn is good friend with my past client (and colinmichaelphoto.com website all-star) Kim, thanks for the referral Kim!

I headed up to Placerville on Friday and stayed with my friends, even managing to get in one heck of a muddy bike ride at Sly Lake near Pollock Pines. Probably should have brought my old beater for that ride as my nice bike was coated in about 30lbs of mud when we were done! Saturday morning I drove up to South Lake Tahoe and scouted out some areas. My first thought was “wow, there’s not very much snow!” Even at the summit on the way over Highway 50 there was only about 2 feet of snow so I figured snow angels was out of the question; lake docks and mountain scenes it is! Even lacking in snow Tahoe is stunningly beautiful so I wasn’t too worried.

I picked up Jenn and Andrew and we headed over to the lake shore for some lake and dock photography. It was fairly cold but not so bad on the lake and within about 5 minutes I had the first picture you can see above so I knew it was going to be a great session. Jenn and Andrew made it so easy as they are just perfect for each other and madly in love. So great to get to be around people who are so fun and natural together! We decided to warm up after the first location by stopping at Whiskey Dick’s (that’s a bar!) for some beers and shots. When PBR’s were ordered I knew they are my kind of people!

We then shot at a very beautiful spot on the East shore overlooking the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe. The light was amazing and it wasn’t too cold (about 28 at this point but no wind and it was sunny) so we got a ton of great shots. We finished the day off in a stand of Aspen Trees where Jenn proved women are tougher about cold by sporting a wispy little dress and heels in 25 degree temperatures! I wasn’t exactly warmly dressed but had a lot more on than she did and I was freezing, her commitment to the shot was amazing!

Sunday morning I met up with Jenn and Andrew down at Andrew’s place in El Dorado Hills. All I can say is “Wow!” What an amazing location in the Sierra Foothills overlooking the valley! Gorgeous oaks and stone with an amazing view, I’m seriously going back there just to camp 🙂 Great times getting to know them and having a great time, it was like doing a weekend trip with friends, I can’t wait for the wedding in Santa Cruz in the fall!
