wedding photographer Hawaii

Good times in Hawaii!

It has been a LONG time since we’ve been to Hawaii. My parents lived in Kaua’i before I was born so we went back just about every other year up until college. Last trip was just that; in college. I won’t point out just how long ago that was! We’ve been wanting to go back for awhile so it worked out perfectly when Stephanie’s sister Caitlin decided her and Bryan would get married on Oahu near Waikiki.

The actual logistics of shooting a destination wedding are certainly more complicated than a local wedding so it’s always a good idea to either hire a wedding photographer who is a qualified local or is very familiar with destination wedding shoots as planning makes everything go smoother. With my 100 or so weddings outside of San Luis Obispo I’m very comfortable with destination weddings. However, my trip was made a bit more interesting as we brought the kids and I had been gone to LA and Phoenix so had to fly to San Jose to meet Steph and the kids before flying to Hawaii! Side note: don’t ever stay at the Radison by the San Jose airport if you want to actually sleep…

All 35ish guests stayed near each other so it was almost a week long wedding celebration. We swam, ate, partied, ate, partied, slept and repeat! The wedding was at a gorgeous Kathy Ireland Oasis Estate just outside Honolulu right on the water. All said and done it was an awesome wedding and we all had a great time! There was fun with good people, great food and even a flashmob (see pictures below). The weather was gorgeous, Caitlin and Bryan had a blast and the guests enjoyed a week in paradise! Only down-side is we now we all have to diet to make up for the week of beers and Mai Tai’s!
